Windows Live - Now Live
November 1, 2005 |
Microsoft just announced its Windows Live beta. With its live.com address becoming the default homepage for IE7 and Windows Vista, it is definitely a page to be reckoned with in the long run.
I just played around with it for a while, and I have to admit, it is better than Google’s personalized homepage service. I could not subscribe to Scripting News by looking for feeds in Google, for example, but live.com gave it to me instantly. I also like how one can choose between feeds, news and web pages easily.
The gadgets seem to be that right now - gadgets. Not much useful here, but there will be more, dare I say, ‘user-created’ ones, soon.
The interface overall is very clean, smooth and only works under Internet Explorer. Firefox users get a “sorry, but we will support you soon :)” message. For me, that means I will not be using live.com in the long run. I think the old start.com worked just fine with Firefox, by the way.
Right now, there are is no advertisement, but I think I read there will be some in the long run.
