Sprint Starts Music Service

October 31, 2005 |

Okay, so there is competition for Apple… or not… anybody else notice the $2.50 price tag - per song… out of only 250.000 songs. Nice try. Bring it down to $0.99 and then try again. Also, given that the ROKR phone is not a big hit, maybe the industryneeds to re-think if people really want to listen to musicon a phone.

From the Financial Times, through MSNBC:

Sprint Nextel is hoping to bite into Apple Computer’s core by launching the first US music download service direct to mobile phones.

TheSprint Music Store will enable subscribers of the third-largest mobilecarrier to choose from 250,000 songs from all four major music labelsand download them for $2.50 each using phones from either SamsungElectronics or Sanyo Electric.

Now look at this quote from a dimwitted marketing guy:

“For mobile music, the Sprint Music Store powered by Groove Mobile succeeds where the iTunes ROKR phone failed,” says Adam Sexton of Groove Mobile. “Mobile music is a new medium – not just an extension of the computer.”

Mobile music is a new medium? Hmm… Walkman anybody?

Also, what are the rights connected to this? Can I transfer my music back to my PC? Burn a CD, or do I have to go back to iTunes and download the song again for that?
