Google Base

The latest rumor floating on the internet is that Google is about to release its own incarnation of Ebay or Craigslist called Google Base at base.google.com. Right now, the page returns at 403, unlike other unused Google domains that redirect to their homepage.
Google fandom is at the tipping point, I think. They are releasing a new, and often mediocre product on a weekly basis now. All I can think of this is that they are trying to corner every market as soon as they can, but they are not adding much. Ever since Google News and Google Maps, the good stuff they released was always bought from outside (Picasa, Google Earth).
